Post-Treatment of Reclaimed Municipal Wastewater through Unsaturated and Saturated Porous Media in a Large-Scale Experimental Model

چکیده

In recent decades, groundwater overexploitation has caused an important aquifer level decline in arid zones each year. addition to this issue, large volumes of effluent are produced year metropolitan areas these regions. situation, storage and recovery system (ASR) using the reclaimed domestic wastewater can be a local solution two challenges. research, post-treatment municipal been investigated through unsaturated–saturated porous media. A large-scale, L-shaped experimental model was set up near second-stage treatment plant (WWTP) west greater Tehran. The water, soil, treated were supplied from aquifer, site, WWTP, respectively. 13 physicochemical parameters, temperature fecal coliform analyzed every 10 days seven points for period four months (two active periods 40 with 12-h on–off rate (wet cycles) rest (dry cycle) between wet cycles). results showed that effects saturated zone twice as great those unsaturated two-thirds total efficiency. Furthermore, discontinuous wet–dry–wet cycle had significant effect on efficiency contaminants’ reduction. conclusion, is sustainable water resource used agriculture, environmental non-potable demands.

Numerical Model for Saturated-Unsaturated Flow in Deformable Porous Media

An integrated finite difference algorithm is presented for numerically solving the governing equation of saturated-unsaturated flow in deformable porous media. In recognition that stability of the explicit equation is a local phenomenon a mixed explicit-implicit procedure is used for marching in the time domain. In this scheme the explicit changes in potential are first computed for all element...

Transport of silica colloids through unsaturated porous media: experimental results and model comparisons.

We present results on the migration of silica colloids through laboratory columns packed with partially saturated quartz sand. The transport of the silica colloids responds to changes in the steady-state volumetric moisture content (theta) and for low theta depends on the wetting history of the sand pack prior to colloid injection. A mathematical model that incorporates a first-order rate law t...

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water

abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...

Groundwater recharge with reclaimed municipal wastewater: health and regulatory considerations.

Groundwater recharge with reclaimed municipal wastewater presents a wide spectrum of technical and health challenges that must be carefully evaluated prior to undertaking a project. This review will provide a discussion of groundwater recharge and its management with special reference to health and regulatory aspects of groundwater recharge with reclaimed municipal wastewater. At present, some ...

Groundwater recharge simulation using a coupled saturated-unsaturated flow model

Abstract The coupled MODFLOW-HYDRUS software package was used to produce a saturated-unsaturated flow model for a Flood Spreading System (FSS) and its associated aquifer. The study aim to improve simulations of near-surface hydrological processes, including temporal and spatial variation in groundwater recharge rates. The coupled model was built with average RMSE=1.1 and 1.3 for calibration ...
